She maintains she is a single girl and does so with what is now her trademark -- the True Grin.

But she's proved she has the grit to go with it. She is going ahead with ‘Speed 2' although her original co-star Keanu Reeve has pulled out. Matthew McConaughey -- yes, him again -- had been mentioned as her co-star but she's watching his career:' The next thing Matthew needs to do is not an action film. I think working together again this soon wouldn't be right.'

At least we know who wears the pants in this non-lovers relationship. Bullock is desperate for the action:'I need to get out of my mind for a little while. I'm so looking forward to ‘'Speed'' for it is just great fun and humour and mindless.I need it after these past two films. I will really miss Keanu. I adore him but what ever his reasons are I respect them.

‘He broke his ankle and he had just finished a huge action film and it wasn't a great experience for him. What's wonderful about Keanu is that he doesn't want the fame, he doesn't want all the stuff that goes along with it and I totally understand that.

‘I haven't just done an action film so I'm ready. They don't want me to talk about the plot but it's insane. It's wonderfully insane and it's reallygood. It's better than the first one.

‘Still driving? Kind of...sort of in a way. I'm driving a little bit. Not a bus though. Not a bus. There's no buses. I'm not really...it's insane. It's going to be fun...'

She leans back with that knowing grin again. She says she has mellowed in the past year. However, the one thing that might just -- it doesn't --- wipe that you-know-what off her face is the talk of money. When one Hollywood name was asked the difference between Sandra Bullock in ‘Speed' and ‘Speed 2' he said: ‘ Just $200,000 and $12 million.' It was meant kindly.

The message was that Bullock had dealt with fame and fortune admirably. She bristles a little: ‘ On luxuries -- I don't need much at all. Less is better A lot of stuff is distracting. I'm uncomfortable with it and it's not how I like to live my life. The price tag is ridiculous and, thank God, you can pass it on. You can take care of your family. You can buy their houses, take care of their schooling.

‘I still have the same houses -- the first house that I bought. I'm always working on it. I'm putting the money back into the production company. It's crazy money. It's ridiculous but it's funny. I said:'' Why can't I just don a small movie for scale wages.'' And they say:'' Look, if they're going to make $100 million off a film because you're in it then you should get the money from it.''

‘I said OK but I think there's too much pressure with this money for me to be honest. It was funny at first and then it became weird. Sometimes it's not in your best interests to make that much money -- I've learned that the hard way.'

The financial matters make her even more restless. She is tapping her feet. She wants to go out into the New York evening and go dancing. With everybody. And anybody who wants to dance. She is a salsa dance fanatic. ‘I need to always break a good sweat and liberate myself. Salsa whether it's couples dancing or just freestyle is the way I always want to go. I need it.

‘Some people go to therapy. I got to salsa.

‘If I couldn't dance or release myself in that way I would go out of my mind.'

Of course, she says that with a grin.
