During and between romantic tangles -- and on one occasion while performing off stage when he should have been performing on stage -- he has displayed his skills as a multi-talented musician, writer, comedy star and actor. And, much to his and many other people' surprise, a Hollywood heart-throb at the age of 44. Then, an American magazine voted him as the man most women wanted to sleep with. They couldn't have picked a more willing candidate. At the end of 1996 Dudley Moore's life was becoming increasingly complicated. Cleveland has full-blown AIDS.Nicole has insisted he remain ‘part of the family.' Dudley is sympathetic to Cleveland 's plight but concerned about the effect it's having on the family including his son Nicholas. He tried to put the worries out of his mind when he was cast -- along with Lauren Bacall, Jeff Bridges and new 007 Pierce Brosnan -- in the upcoming romantic comedy ‘The Mirror Has Two Faces.' Perfectionist Barbra Streisand was the director and it was a wonderful chance for Dudley to enjoy a high profile role. But his private life interfered. He was distracted by thoughts of Cleveland and his family and fluffed his lines during filming in New York . Streisand read the riot act and tried to carry on filming with Dudley using cue cards. It didn't help and she fired him from his $1 million dollar role. ‘I had one bad day and it cost me a part in the movie. I admit it, I forgot my lines. I wasn't on drugs or drink -- I just couldn't remember them. I had other things on my mind. Getting fired is not the worst thing that could happen.I can't predict the future.........' But he says that he is ‘working hard every day' to keep his marriage to Nicole alive. ‘There are difficulties but we've already overcome an awful lot so I'm hopeful.That's the best you can be.' |
