Dudley's been on a matrimonial merry-go-round all his life but like the title of one of his old films he was -- and is -- bedazzled by Nicole whom he calls ‘Honeybunny' in their many amorous moments.

But it hasn't always been non-stop loving although Moore is credited with being a five-times-a-day sexual pixie when he hasn't got a headache.

On the evening of the 1994 Oscars he wanted to throttle Nicole. Police were called after both Dudley and Nicole rang the U.S. emergency number 911.He was taken away in handcuffs to become Prisoner 90792032194 of the Los Angeles Police Department. Nicole refused to press charges but Dudley languished behind bars for two hours before posting $50,000 dollars bail.

But this wasn't ‘Goodbye--ee' to Nicole. The anger and the acrimony soon vanished.

Within weeks they were married at a sunset ceremony near his beach home. There was champagne and red wine and somersaults on and in the sand at the naughty nuptials at which Dudley giggle a lot ‘Arthur' style.

But on May 21 this year they officially separated -- one week after police were called to their home after yet another squabble. His picture was taken again -- as evidence. The police photographer took close-ups of his black eye and scratches on his cheeks.

It seemed once again that marriage number four had become violent. The row was provoked by Dudley going into a rage over his wife's spending. He took exception not to the amount of designer clothes she was buying but the size of the credit card statements.

Finally, after months of indecision, he made up his mind that this was another marriage that was not going to work. His next move, as always, was to run away from it. In June he filed for divorce in Los Angeles Superior Court citing the all encompassing ‘irreconcilable differences'

At that stage he was prepared to court knowing that details of their unconventional marriage -- stories of Nicole's drug-taking and sexual adventurers with other women and his own involvement with prostitutes -- would be revealed. By then he didn't care what the world thought.

While still married to Brogan it had been typical Dudley to involve himself not in a love triangle but a lusty quadrangle. He's an involvement --at--first-sight man. And, partly because of that, he's dragged much emotional baggage throughout his life, troubled and never satisfied and his own worst enemy. The hysterical funny man -- the silly voice offered on command -- has always been a pretence; there are inner doubts and agonies.

During most of his life and many loves he had usually indulged himself. He had and retains a chip on both shoulders, has spent years in psychotherapy (‘I've been having a mid-life crisis since I was two weeks old -- I went right from a midwife to the mid-life crisis.') and what seems, to friends, like years on the telephone recounting his anguish and agonies.
